1603

1603 marks the end of the Elizabethan era and the beginning of the Jacobean era and the reign of King James I began. In terms of Shakespeare, 1603 also marks a pivotal change in the style of his writing. During the Elizabethan era, Shakespeare’s theater company was called ‘The Lord Chamberlains Men’ and he wrote romantic comedy and history plays, during the Jacobean Era his theater company changed to ‘All the Kings men’ and he began writing his tragedies and romances. Shakespeare wrote half his plays during one period and wrote the other half during the next. Shakespeare was exceptionally aware of the culture around him. He was able to read into it without subscribing to it. The abrupt shift in his style between the two era’s reflect his receptiveness to the society of the time.
